Dr. Lena Roeder is the owner and senior veterinarian at the Dublin Animal Hospital. She graduated with honors from Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1991. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Association of Avian Veterinarians. Dr. Roeder takes pleasure in working with all companion animal species. She is skilled, comfortable, and experienced in dog, cat, avian, small mammal and reptilian medicine. Under her guidance, Dublin Animal Hospital has become the leading avian hospital in Southern Colorado.
Dr. Roeder's entire life has been devoted to animal care. She grew up on a small family ranch in the Gunnison valley of Colorado. In that setting she developed a strong compassion for all animals and became devoted to improving their care and well-being.
Dr. Roeder is an avid runner, and while she has retired from the local road racing circuit, she can often be found running the trails in and around Colorado Springs with her faithful canine companions. She enjoys playing the piano and the flute, and is a member of the Pikes Peak Flute Choir. She also enjoys backpacking, cycling, gardening, skiing, and reading a good novel.
Dr. Roeder's husband works with her at the Dublin Animal Hospital, managing the non-medical component of the hospital. Their daughter Shayla recently graduated from the University of Colorado, and son Tsaaron is attending the University of Northern Colorado.
With the kids out of the house, it is now dominated by a diverse assortment of non-human family members. Penelope, Racer, Owen, and Kharma are four dogs who the Roeders feel privileged to share their lives with. Penelope is a very senior lab mix who is living in a rapidly degenerating body with incredible grace and dignity. Racer is a middle age pointer mix who believes he is in charge of their running program. Owen is an amazing little pug that hangs with the big dogs on backpacking trips. Kharma is a newly adopted young boxer who is learning the Roeder lifestyle and assisting Racer as running coach. Cassidy and Tria are to very special cats, both of whom are missing their left hind legs. These girls work together as a team - begging their humans for food and keeping the dogs in line. Jhabu, an African Grey Parrot, rules the house with an advanced (albeit very bossy) vocabulary. The menagerie is rounded out by a collection of four box turtles and a flock of six chickens, led by Agnes the "egg boss".
